Staff Positions

First Act Children’s Theatre is always looking for Professional Theatre Artists and Adult Theatre Enthusiasts to join our team.

Reports to: Artistic Director

Classification: Independent Contractor, Part-time, Non-exempt, Seasonal

Position Description: 

Teaching Artists provide professional Theatre arts instruction to students in or entering grades 4K through 12th grade.  Artists are assigned teaching opportunities in our after-school production classes, workshops, and summer camps on a rolling basis as needed seasonally. Teaching Artists should have experience in developing and executing Theatre education as well as some classroom management experience. 

Position Requirements:  Theatre Training which must include some or all of the following:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Theatre
  • Experience in professional or semi-professional theatre.
  • Experience in Community Theatre
  • Theatre classes, workshops and/or training in a professional or educational setting post-high school.

Reports to: Costume Supervisor and Artistic Director

Classification:  Independent Contractor, Part-time, Non-exempt, Seasonal

Position Description: 

Those interested in joining our costume team will receive training in our process of providing complete costumes for all of our youth actors.  This will include measuring, fittings, costume repair and building, organization and participation in the dress rehearsal and performance process. 

Position Requirements:   Theatre Training which must include some or all of the following: 

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Theatre or related field.
  • Experience working with costumes in a Theatre setting. 
  • Theatre classes, workshops and training in a professional or education setting that is post-high school.
  • Sewing experience that may include hand sewing, pattern work, machine sewing, working with wigs, mask and/or headpiece construction.

Internship Positions

First Act Children’s Theatre provides paid internships for college students and artists who wish to develop their career skills as Theatre Artists. We provide all interns the opportunity to: 

  • Work alongside trained Theatre Artists teaching in the field of theatre. 
  • Learn excellent practices in the field of Theatre Education. 
  • Gain practical experience working in the field of Youth Theatre. 

Reports to:  Artistic Director, Assigned Teaching Artists

Internship Description: Teaching Assistant Interns serve as assistant instructors working under the guidance of trained Teaching Artists within our production classes.  Interns help maintain the classroom environment, assist with warm-ups and theatre games, keep track of attendance, help with classroom discipline as needed, and assist with the rehearsal and performance process of the production. 

Internship Requirements:  Individuals applying for an internship should fulfill one or more of the following requirements:

  • Pursuit of a degree in higher education, preferably in the field of Theatre
  • Possess a keen interest in Theatre Education and Youth Theatre
  • Have experience working in the field of Theatre Arts in some capacity.
  • Enjoy working with youth in a collaborative setting.

Apprentice Positions

First Act Children’s Theatre provides apprenticeships for high school students who wish to develop their leadership skills in the field of Theatre. We provide apprentices the opportunity to: 

  • Work alongside trained Theatre Artists teaching in the field of theatre. 
  • Learn excellent practices in the field of Theatre Education. 
  • Gain practical experience working in the field of Youth Theatre. 
  • Develop effective leadership skills and self-confidence. 
  • Use their experience with First Act as a reference on college applications. 
  • Use First Act as a personal reference for college and job applications.

Apprentices in their junior and senior years of school receive a monetary stipend. 

Reports to:  Artistic Director, Assigned Teaching Artists

Apprentice Description: Theatre Apprentices serve as assistant instructors and team leaders during our summer theatre camps.  They may also serve as assistant instructors during our school year production classes.  Apprentices work under the guidance of trained Teaching Artists and help maintain the classroom environment, assist with warm-ups and theatre games, keep track of attendance, help with classroom discipline as needed, and assist with the rehearsal and performance process of the production. 

Apprentice Requirements:  Applicants must meet a minimum of three of the following requirements:

  • Be in good standing with your high school teachers and counselors.
  • Have a strong interest in developing leadership skills
  • Enjoy working with younger students in a collaborative theatre setting
  • Have two personal references that can provide positive feedback. 
  • Have some past experience in the field of Theatre arts.
